November already. How did that happen? I had grand plans of making loads of handmade Christmas gifts, but seeing as it takes me around a month to finish anything, I guess I’ll be doing the majority of my Christmas shopping on amazon. Again.
I have managed to finish a few pieces since my last blog post a few months ago though *gives myself a congratulatory pat on the back*. Actually, I’ll maybe hold off on the congratulations after my slippers disaster. More on that later….
First up is the crochet cushion for my son that I wrote about a couple of posts back, to go with his sister’s. It was made with recycled t-shirt yarn; I found using this hurt my hands after a while so I had to take regular breaks from it. I am quite a tight crocheter though so that might have had something to do with it. Here’s a pic of it being used. I’d love to say my children sit as peacefully side-by-side on their cushions all the time, but this was entirely posed (with the help of Paw Patrol…)
Next up is the bolero I started for my daughter back in May. Once again, I am reminded of the importance of checking gauge. It fits ok the moment, but is a bit on the small side, especially at the front. I will learn one day. Probably.
Next up are these Game of Thrones-inspired mittens for myself. I love them. They are seriously comfy and totally channel my inner-geek. My friend liked them so much she asked me to make her a pair, which I’m in the process of doing. I can’t decide whether I prefer them in the red or green – any preferences? I am on holiday at the moment, so can’t remember what yarn I used, but if anyone wants to find out, or where to get the pattern, just let me know and I’ll have a look when I get home.
And, finally, we come to the slippers. The ‘know your limits’ moment of knitting. I tried to adapt a pattern for slippers to make them bigger. As you can see below, I ended up with ones best suited for a clown. It is safe to say, I was happy to frog this knitting disaster.
So that’s me – what have you all been working on?
