Birthday Treats

Just a quick post today. It was my birthday yesterday and I had such a lovely day with my family. We went out to dinner at our local pub. Ah, the days of fancy restaurants and good fillet steak are gone. If they’ve got crayons, some toys and an outdoor play bit I am sold. When we got home my husband came out with my cake which he had decorated with my little girl. To be honest, when I first saw it I thought it was a spider (albeit missing a few legs), until he pointed out it was a ball of yarn and two knitting needles. Wife/mummy fail.

I have decided to treat myself to something knitting/crochet related and I’m looking for some recommendations. What are your favourite patterns books? What yarn do you just love to knit or crochet with? What accessories can’t you live without? All ideas are welcome. I may have a splurge!!

Thank you!

  1. Happy (now very belated) Birthday! I love your cake – that’s so sweet of your husband to decorate it with your daughter! I know you’ve probably heard this before, but enjoy all the time you have with your little one – you’ll look up one day and she’ll be off on her own; my oldest is at his first year at university this year and my middle son will be going next year and if I could, I time travel back and squish younger versions of them.

      1. I think that’s the hardest thing to do as a Mom – move past the right now and see the long game. My kids forced me to learn how to have more patience; I wish I’d come equipped with more, but I used to tell them I only have so much each day, like a bucket of patience, and it gets doled out as the day goes on. And some days I don’t start with a full bucket – that helped them understand a bit better when I would get frustrated & lose my composure with them. On the flip side, I think it’s important for them to see you deal with unpleasant feelings – no one is happy and nice and infinitely patient all the time; we’re human after all.

      2. Totally agree with you!! We are human, no one is happy all of the time and emotions like anger, anxiety and sadness serve a function. I also love your bucket analogy – I used to use a similar one in my job when talking to people about stress. Will need to use your one for my kids!
