I am not quite sure how 2 months has passed since my last post Loss, but it would seem we are in September and my wee blog has been woefully neglected. But whilst my digital life has been quiet, my actual life has been hectic to say the least.
As you can imagine, we are all still trying to come to terms with the loss of my father-in-law. My sadness now comes in waves, rather than being a constant weight in my stomach. In some ways this is progress, as I can laugh without feeling guilty and don’t feel like I’m always on the verge of tears. But in some ways it is worse, as the sadness and full sense of what we have lost can hit when I least expect it.
We have begun the difficult task of going through his house and sorting out his estate which is going to take some time. I also sadly lost my uncle a few days ago. His funeral was today and it was a really beautiful service – his son is a priest so there were 15 priests on the altar. My uncle had a very strong faith and I know he would have been delighted.
Through the sadness we have had some really lovely occasions to celebrate as well. My son was Christened in August and it was a really lovely day – although I ended up drinking one or ten too many wines… My daughter turned 3 and we had a big party which she was delighted with, as she loves nothing more than wearing a pretty party dress (how this child is my daughter, I’ll never know). And we’re off to Australia and New Zealand soon to visit my sister and her family so have been busy organising our trip.
I have also managed to find some time to knit and crochet. I have finished one arm of my husband’s jumper. I don’t think I’ve done it right – I couldn’t quite work out how to incorporate the pattern into the increases – but, at this point in the process, I’m not sure I care. And, hey, it’s all a learning experience.
I also decided it would be a great idea to make some pencil toppers for my daughter’s party bags. Never. Again. To be fair, it didn’t help that I only decided to do them a few days before the party but I honestly thought they would take me no time at all to whip up. How wrong I was. The first one took me the entire night to finish. I got a bit quicker, but they were such fiddly little things, that each took at least an hour to complete. In the end, I managed to make 14 of the 17 needed (my daughter and two of her close friends are still waiting for theirs. Oops). But they are super cute. And it gave me an excuse to sit and crochet for hours on end so that was a result I suppose!
I have also started to make some pouffes for my kids. They are made using recycled cotton jersey fabric. I’ll write a post on them when I’m done.
In the last couple of months I have a few more followers too – welcome! – and I am going to spend some time over the next few days checking out their blogs and catching up on the blogs I already follow.
It’s nice to be back.
Those pencil toppers are so great. Sorry to read about your loss. We too have had a loss this month but I haven’t been able to write about it yet.

Thank you. I am sorry to hear of your loss as well. I don’t think you should put any pressure on yourself to write if you don’t feel ready. Take care x
