Knitting when I can…

Sorry I’ve not posted in a while but I am now the proud mummy to a little boy, one month old today, so I haven’t had much spare time. He is a lovely little thing but it is definitely harder with 2 children, especially as his big sister has been unwell so if he’s not up during the night, then she is. Suffice to say, my husband and I are both knackered!

Call it optimistic, naive or just plain stupid, but I had assumed having a second child wouldn’t be that much different from having one.  Yeah, I had totally forgotten about trapped wind and the torture that is interrupted and reduced sleep (I have concluded that this amnesia is, in fact, an evolutionary process designed to avoid the extinction of mankind). Plus this time I have a toddler to entertain whilst feeding, and can’t just park myself on the sofa watching Grey’s Anatomy.  So as you can all imagine, I haven’t had much time to knit or crochet.  However, in my pre-birth naivety, I had promised my friend some crafted goods for Christmas. My son was born on the 16th of December. I honestly thought I’d have time to whip something up between then and Christmas. I even took yarn into the hospital with me and home to my parents house. My mum laughed when she saw it – she has 5 children so knows a thing or two about having kids. My friend did not, therefore, receive her gifts in time for Christmas.

But in the last few days when my daughter has been in nursery and my son has been napping, I’ve managed to sneak in a bit of knitting. I’m doing a cable hat for my friend and have managed to do a few rows each day. I can’t decide whether to do another repeat of the cables or to just start decreasing it (the former risks it being too big, the latter too small and I can’t bear the thought of having to rip out any knitting that I have actually managed to complete). The pattern says to do three repeats and I’ve done two so far and it fits quite nicely on my head. But I’m a bit too sleep deprived to make an executive decision so any thoughts would be great fully received!

The hat so far

Ok, little boy is rousing and looking for his mum, so I’ll leave it there. I’ll share a picture of the hat whenever I manage to finish it! Aileen x
